Teng Tools Tarmac Series Bent Sprint.
August 17th, 2008
Despite winter threatening to make everyone’s day miserable, 46 competitors turned up to pit themselves against Hiwi Road, Tauwhare. As with previous rounds ages ranged from a few Under 18s to some over 50s testing themselves against the youngsters.
Once practice was over - without incident this year - the serious business of skidding started in earnest. Even in the first official run we had some sub 1 minute times, with others worrying that barrier. The entire field got through without any rain, and the organisers took that opportunity to feed and water the helpers out on the course. Post lunch, times continued to tumble, with a new leader, and the gap between them being only 0.15 seconds. Run 3 welcomed the rain, and in general the times got a touch slower, although there were several notable exceptions to that. However the lead didn’t change and Daryl Webster took home the top prize with Paul Harvie second, and Daniel Vincent coming in 3rd. Four wheel drive was certainly a help today.
There were a couple of big improvers, in particular Lenare Martin, improving from 1:22.79 to 1:12.09, including going faster in the rain than her previous run. Another notable improver was Alex Shepherd in his Fiat Uno Turbo, moving from 1:22.48 down to 1:09.94.
Attached are today’s results, and the Series points so far.
