Sunday 17 June 2007. The first official motorsport event to be held on the circuit to be used by the Aussie V8 Supercars in April 2008 took place at the western end of the circuit. We ran our opener for the 2007 Toyo Tires Tarmac Series, a motokhana, in a disused truck yard that adjoins the new circuit. A total of 63 competitors turned up to play on a great surface, well sealed with a dusty coating promoting (legal and acceptable) sustained loss of traction! We had everything from a 903cc Fiat 127 that revved and scrabbled its way around the 4 courses used, all the way through to a bellowing 4.9 litre V8 powered 2 door Mk 3 Cortina. Just about everything in between played on the day, with 13 newcomers to motorsport playing in their Japanese or Korean daily drivers, through cars such as a Targa prepared BMW 2002 in a shrinking violet shade of green (not) to the most unlikely motorsport vehicle, a totally unmodified (yet) Volvo 760 with 2.8 litre V6.
In the end the day belonged to a Mini, gaining his advantage on the 1st run of the final course. Prior to that there were a couple who led, a Subaru WRX losing his advantage by completing the last course incorrectly - twice.
The next round takes place on Sunday July 15, but note, the venue has changed. I will announce the new venue here as soon as possible.

Sunday 18 November saw 18 people turn out to John Cottle’s farm to tear up his paddock - despite the threatening weather. Unfortunately for us, lots of them were from Minis Waikato and the worsening conditions played into their hands. Unfortunately also was that it wasn’t quite wet enough to get to their electrics, Lucas of course, and stop them in their tracks.
The Autocross attracted fewer players but the competition was similarly intense.
A great precursor to the very fast Fiat at Melbourne driven by the Ice Man taking out the first F1 GP of the 2007 season.

Ruapuke Road at Te Mata again rang to the sound of ClubSport cars being tested against approximately 2 km of sealed road at the Fiat Club Waikato’s Annual Te mata Sprint.
24 cars faced the starter, with everything from a Hillman Imp through to an AWD Subaru.
A great day was had by most, unfortunately Andrew Durber didn’t finish the day being taken out with mechanical problems, and Lee Sinkinson head butted the countryside in his immaculate Fiat Tipo Sedicivalvolve. Fortunately he was unhurt and the car is fixable.

Well, with help from London and the wonders of modern technology, I believe we have some results posted. Have a look at the results page and if this has stuck I will add more from earlier in the series.

Well, right now I am having trouble uploading the results. I will try a copy and paste and see what the outcome is. Otherwise, be patient, the technology is still new to me.

Attached are the results from last Sunday September 3rd. They bring things to an interesting point with one round to go. Our first 2 points scorers are within 0.12 of each other. They have both competed in the 4 rounds so far, and they both get to drop their worst performance after Hiwi Road. Will the giant killing Mirage of Mark Walters carry the day against the smooth power of Greg Spark’s Honda? Be at the event to find out.
